BookThread ("we", "our", "the app") is a personal book journal and reading tracker. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

Data We Collect

• Account information: Your email address, used for authentication.
• Book library data: Titles, authors, page counts, reading status, progress, ratings, and notes you enter.
• Highlights: Text passages and optional photos of book pages you capture.
• Reading sessions: Session timestamps, duration, and pages read.
• Reading goals: Yearly reading targets you set.
• Feedback: Any feedback you submit through the app.

How We Use Your Data

Your data is used solely to provide the app's features — tracking your reading, displaying your library, calculating stats and streaks, and storing your notes and highlights. We do not use your data for advertising, profiling, or any purpose beyond the app's functionality.

Data Storage

Your data is stored securely on Supabase infrastructure in the EU (Frankfurt). All data is transmitted over HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored securely on your device.

Third-Party Services

• Supabase: Database, authentication, and file storage.
• Open Library API: Book search and metadata lookup. No personal data is sent — only search queries (titles, authors, ISBNs).
• PostHog: Privacy-focused analytics hosted in the EU (Frankfurt). We collect anonymous usage data (screen views, feature usage) to improve the app. Your email is used for account identification only. No data is shared with advertisers. You can opt out of analytics at any time in the app's settings.

Device Permissions

• Camera: Used to scan book barcodes and capture photos of book passages. Photos are only stored if you choose to save a highlight.
• Photo Library: Used to select existing photos for highlights. We only access photos you explicitly select.

Data Sharing

We do not sell, share, or transfer your personal data to third parties. Your reading data is private to your account.

Your Rights

• You can delete individual books, notes, highlights, and reading sessions at any time within the app.
• You can delete your account and all associated data from within the app via Profile > Delete Account. You can also contact us at support@bookthread.net.
• You can request a copy of your data by contacting us.

Children's Privacy

BookThread is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision.
